Erie Snapshot: Crafters are ready for the holidays
More than 100 crafters set up shop at Rainbow Gardens at Waldameer Park Nov. 11-13 for the 28th annual WQLN Holiday Craft Show.
Sheila Warner, of Erie, sat behind a table piled high with colorful hats.
"I make derbies, cloche and bucket hats," she said. "They are made of 100 percent wool and are all handmade."
Warner recently retired from her job as a nurses aid instructor at Erie's Central Career and Technical School but said she had no problems diving into her new career as a hat maker.
"I come from a real crafty family," she said.
Photographer Bob Grubbs, of Erie, was selling his photos at the show. He does several shows a year and recently changed his sales strategy.
"With today's economy, the big photos don't move. I haven't sold a big photograph in my last three or four shows. People will spend $15 to $20 for a matted 8-by-10, though, so I bring more of those," he said.
"I have been selling a lot of photos of the Gudgeonville covered bridge since it's gone.
