Versatile sportsman Matt Cotton has been playing cricket since he was a kid but it is only in semi-retirement he has been able to snare his first hat-trick.

Cotton, 34, grabbed an amazing 7/9, including a hat-trick, playing against Truro on Saturday in the A3 grade of the Barossa and Light Association.

After playing competitively for Willaston, Wasleys and Two Wells, Cotton is now playing “for enjoyment with his mates” for Sandy Creek.

A left arm quick, Cotton opened the bowling on Saturday and had an opening spell of six overs which yielded two wickets for only two runs.

He then had a break for 90 minutes before returning to rout the Truro side.

Cotton had four overs and took five wickets for seven runs including a hat-trick, and may have been unlucky not to snare a double hat-trick which is four wickets in four balls.

“When I bowled my first spell it was into the wind which was really strong,” Cotton said.
