The colorful designs on the fabric Jennifer van Breemen uses
when making sundresses for little girls caught the eye of nearly
every shopper at last weekend's Shop 4 Charity boutique.
The crafts fair, held annually to benefit Operation Provider,
took place in the Twin Peaks Senior Center, which was bustling with
activity.
Van Breemen, the mother of six children ranging in age from 18
months to 12, had opted to use a sling so she could "wear" her
first-born son wherever she went. She found the experience so
satisfying, she decided to start making slings that all mothers
could afford.
"I didn't think it was fair that only the well off or financially
comfortable could have the joys of wearing and bonding with their
baby," van Breemen said.
The founder of Sew Cute Designs has made it her mission to donate
slings to mothers who cannot afford to buy them.
In addition to the slings, van Breemen makes soft flannel blankets,
burp pads, and onesies for babies; what she calls pillowcase
dresses for girls; bows and headbands; and shirts with ties on them
for boys.
