Oh, those disasters that never happened
The Times-Union asked members of our Email Interactive Group to share their close calls, the times they escaped disaster. These are times we often forget and fail to appreciate.
I am thankful for all my family and friends who supported me throughout the past year. I was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August, 2010. I began chemo treatments in September and had 75 percent of my stomach removed in surgery in November; followed up by four more chemo treatments. Last Thanksgiving, I was wondering if I would live to be here this Thanksgiving. With the love of those who cared about me and the skill hands and knowledge of my medical team at the Mayo Clinic, I am able to enjoy this Thanksgiving without the threat of cancer in my body. I want to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people in my life and the wonderful people at the Mayo Clinic whose thoughtfulness and understanding makes going through something like this easier to bear.
