Kathryn Ivey, owns Haddon Interiors in Washington, was a guest on an online chat with Washington Post readers. Here is an edited excerpt of the question-and-answer session that followed.
Q. My 3-year-old son has a lot of hats and I hate how they’re stored under a little table in his room. However I can’t come up with any good solutions. We can’t keep them on the back of the closet door because we have folding doors and the bedroom door has our towels. Do you have any ideas?
A. A cute way to store hats is to put them into a tall, somewhat wide, clear cylinder vase. You may be able to find one made of plastic so you don’t have to worry about the possibility of broken glass. I’d try Home Goods or Michael’s.
Q. We recently renovated an old, small bathroom and got rid of the yellow, brown and black tile. We replaced it with a white hexagonal subway tile with black glass accents. Now we need to choose a paint color and I’m totally lost.There is very little wall space so I wouldn’t mind a deep or bright color. There is a lot of light and the bathroom will be shared by our two sons, ages 1 and 3.
