Devils again hold off Raiders

LEOMINSTER  —  The annual Thanksgiving Day game between Fitchburg High and Leominster High is always one of the most anticipated games of the year. So why should the playoff rematch be any different?

The Red Raiders rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to get within one with 4:53 left, but the Blue Devils stuffed a 2-point conversion attempt and forced two incompletions by Fitchburg in the final 10 seconds to hold on for a 26-25 victory in a Central Mass. Division 1 playoff game last night at Doyle Field.

Second-seeded Leominster (9-3) will try to win its 10th straight game when it faces No. 1 St. John's in the Super Bowl at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. Leominster defeated the Pioneers, 23-15, in overtime earlier this season.

“Our defense has done it all year, and what better way to end it than to stop them on a two-point conversion at the end of the game?” Leominster coach Dave Palazzi said.
