“That was pretty impressive,” defenseman Brent Burns said. “That’s the best player in the world. I really didn’t expect anything other than that. It was going to an adjustment for him, but you could tell he was ready.”
Todd McLellan, not surprisingly, sounded like a coach as he talked about Crosby’s first game back.
“He energized the building,” McLellan said. “He energized his team. His teammates showed up and played well for him, and that shows his impact in the locker room. It was very impressive.”
McLellan added that he was listening to the car radio while driving later Monday night.
“I heard a news broadcast and they talked about hockey star Sidney Crosby returning,” he said. “That’s a good thing for our league.”
* Ryane Clowe was fined $2,500 Monday by the NHL for a slash of Stephane Robidas in the wild game against Dallas Saturday night. Clowe seemed to regard it as money well-spent as he went after Robidas in retaliation for an earlier hit on Joe Thornton.
