Accessing basic necessities like food, education and good health care are as hard as they were two decades ago. This earns the Boteti River - which covers the villages of Rakops, Xhumo, Madikola and Mopipi yet another name -'The River of Divisiveness!

The northern part is home to about 400 people and due to its population density it is called Herero Boseja. This is where the Herero speakers settled years ago. The southern part of the village consists of the majority - Kalanga and Basubiya - with about 11 wards.

This is where basic amenities are concentrated - the primary hospital, Rakops Junior Secondary School, shops, recreational areas. It is also the exit point for buses leaving for other areas of the country.

Residents are always travelling long distances to the sub-district capital, Letlhakane, to pay for various services or enquire on power connectivity issues, water bills and of course signing marriage certificates before the District Commissioner (DC).
