London police investigate two bank robberies a day apart

Police are investigating two bank robberies in London 24 hours apart, but are not saying whether they are related.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, a man entered the Scotia Bank at 635 Southdale Rd. East and demanded cash from a teller and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No weapons were used and no one was injured, police said.

The suspect is described as white, five feet six inches tall, 150-160 pounds, in his late 30s or early 40s and wearing dark pants, dark shoes, black gloves, a balaclava and three-quarter-length rain jacket with a hood over a baseball cap.

The description is similar to a suspect wanted in a robbery at a TD Canada Trust branch at 220 Dundas St. Thursday around 7:30 p.m., where a man demanded cash from the teller and fled on foot with no weapon in sight.

“At this point we’re still investigating,” said Const. Ricardo Juliao, when asked if the two robberies might be the work of the same suspect.
