Residents run in holiday season

THE VILLAGES —  Amidst the soft glow of burning candles and a chorus of holiday tunes, the spirit of Christmas descended upon Spanish Springs Town Square on Thursday evening.

Day soon turned to night, as residents paused from munching on corn dogs and funnel cake and visiting with friends to gather closely around the square for the moment they had been anticipating: the lighting of the Christmas tree.

All the fun and excitement was part of The Villages Tree Lighting Celebration, an annual event that ignites the joy of Christmas in so many hearts.

Well known Villages entertainer Billie Thatcher led the crowd through such cheerful holiday tunes as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and finally “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

With the final note of “May all your Christmases be white,” Thatcher and the crowd of merry onlookers joined in a bellowing countdown until every white light up to the massive star on top beamed radiantly.
