London 2012 Olympics: volunteer uniforms revealed
Chief executive of Locog Paul Deighton said comfort was key in the polyester uniforms.
"Purple says royalty, poppy red says Grenadier Guards, or Sergeant Pepper," Deighton said.
"Our staff were absolutely bowled over, it was a terrific reception from people who are going to wear them".
The jackets have a 'turn-back' feature to suit different arm lengths, while different-coloured epaulettes will identify specific groups, with white for medical staff, red for team leaders and green for anti-doping personnel.
Given that the uniforms will have to be worn at the height of summer, volunteers may want to take advantage of the provided cap and water bottle to deal with the sunshine, although if the recent trend of wet summers continue they will also have an umbrella to use.
There will be no discernible difference between Olympic and Paralympic uniforms other than the logo on the back and the front.
Technical officials will be decked out in a formal uniform designed by Next although they may wear a casual uniform, designed by adidas, depending on their sport. It is similar to the volunteer uniform except the predominant colours are blue and white.
